"In St Mark's gospel the story of Jesus seems so simple until I read the commentaries.
And then I get bogged down and depressed."

Oh yes, I'm with you there.

Mark's favourite phrase - two words only - the urgent " And immediately"
and in the average commentary on Mark - at least a page and a half on that phrase alone.
I remember his show - though not where I saw it - it very arresting I recall.

I didn't see the show but I have the book and it's one of the best gospel commentaries around.

Yes, Mark tells it like it is - like reading a newspaper article or watching a film.
