They're really too much alike in many ways for this to be a smooth relationship, so maybe separating is for the best. At least it leaves them both with something to do. In this universe it's still likely HH will run across Barbara Wellesley and fall for her manly charms. (I keep wondering whether CSF really meant for HH to display such covert gayness.)
And it looks as though Lee has a career path, even if it's not what he might've wanted. But he's 'The Man Alone' even more than Horatio, whose solitude is self-imposed.
I'd really love to see a silly ending to this. Maybe some time-traveling gent recruiting for his agency...?
