Lent thoughts 23
Mar. 20th, 2012 09:22 amRight, here's something a bit on the controversial side. How do Christians approach scripture? Like they approach everything else, of course, with a wide range of views - from "every word is literally true" to "this is God's love letter to us". Wnat to explore this over the next few posts.
I'll start by stating my case - the Bible can't be literally true as it contradicts itself, even in the first few pages. There are two accounts of creation, clearly from different traditions, which can't both be true. Still, as I've heard a very wise Catholic priest say, it's not meant to be a geological textbook. My view on creation? God made the universe but he used the laws of physics and chemistry and biology (hello evolution!) to make it.
Like making a cake. Whether it's from a packet or from scratch, the method doesn't affect the fact that somebody deliberately created it.
