Happy stuff, first. Have got an Agatha Christie audio freebie (2x 30 minutes radio adaptations of short stories) from the Telegraph. Free to a good home if anyone in the UK/Europe wants it.

Now the sniffly; have just started to read David Leavitt's The Man Who Knew Too Much, about Alan Turing. Found a reference to this sad little thing Turing wrote:
Turing believes machines think, Turing lies with men, Therefore machines do not think , which led me to this excellent article.

Odd you should mention Turing. I was thinking about him just last night, he was mentioned in The Secret Life of Chaos. I'm always hugely saddened and enraged by Turing's tragic and unnecessary death. I signed an online petition a couple of years ago campaigning for him to be posthumously pardoned. I also have a copy of Andrew Hodges biography here but to my shame I have never had a chance to read it.

Turing fascinates me. I'm not sure I'd have liked the bloke if I met him, but his contribution to Bletchley and beyond can't be denied. I love the film Breaking the Code with Sir Derek...

Oh yes, me too. He appears to have had such an extraordinary mind. It makes me really angry to think about how he was treated.

I haven't seen Breaking the Code, though I love Sir Derek. I suspect it would make my cry awfully.
