Those first few words reflect one of the central tenets of Jesus' teachings: turn the other cheek. Sometimes I think I missed a meeting, the one where that got voted off, because church leaders didn't want to have to swallow their pride and do such a thing. Or maybe they just wanted to justify being allowed to trade insult for insult or taking an eye for an eye. That's just childish, playground behaviour and, as Paul's letter goes on to say...
