hockeyvaughnfan chose these:

One of the best days of my life was last summer - whale watching in a boat off Cape Cod. This was the tail of a very obliging humpback about thirty feet away. They were bubble feeding as well, which was unbelievable, especially the time when it was three of the things creating the bubble ring. One of my life's ambitions fulfilled.

Another great day of my life. We hit Cardiff with a vengeance, saw Simon Weston in the shops, managed to find ourselves in the vicinity of the French team bus (Vincent Clerc smiled at us) then went to the bay to take pics of ourselves in the Torchwood locations and stalk where Barrowman lives. Watched the England game in the St David's hotel and eventually got to what was the point of the day. Shan't dwell on the match as will offend the sensibilities of
hockeyvaughnfan but suffice to say that it was exhilarating. And yes, I took loads of pics of the French team (and the All Blacks). Particularly liked this one as it has Chabal and that rather nice replacement hooker, Dimitri unpronounceable.

We broke with tradtion (Isle of wight, Torquay...) and went to Paris back in the May half term holiday. It was absolutely magnificent; my O level French de-rusted itself and we discovered no end of delightful little places to eat and walk and pooch around. (And we discovered that the Venus de milo is a bloke!) We all preferred Sacre Coeur to Notre Dame.

I've adored Lord Peter Wimsey since I was nobbut a girl - I still get the books out to re-read and regularly listen to the radio versions. Ian Carmichael had him to a 't'. He and Harriet are very much an inspiration to my writing, as are all the classic characters like Inspector Alleyn and Hercule Poirot.

Jonny - what can I say? Remember him first playing for England when he was a teenager and he's just grown in my affections. He's such a nice lad (when you write to him for an autographed photo you get an individualised one) and an incredibly talented player. The fact that he's been knocked about something chronic (I seem to be reverting to my cockney origins here) only adds to my admiration. The guy has a heart the size of Twickenham.

I was asked how the world of Bride's came about; long story. I was at Cambridge myself and it has a very special place in my heart - at some point I was bound to write about it. The catalysts were a) my re-reading the wonderful book 'Death at the President's Lodging' and being struck at one or two slashy scenes, involving an Archie like character and b)
inlovewithnight's Racket boys stories, which persuaded me that our lads could be taken AU. (Perhaps I get a little carried away in re this. *g*) For me, I can pour all sorts of things into these tales - places I love, things I like to do - without the constraints of AOS. Also, there are all sorts of little connections to the college which is one of the models for Bride's - Jamie went there, Wilberforce went there (as in IG's role) and so did the Earl of Southampton (whom Archie so resembles). All of which signifies nothing but fills me with glee.

John Barrowman. Now there's a story and a half. I can honestly say that a year ago I'd have turned my nose up at him - I used to think "Nice enough singer, not that fit." But then he seems to have 'grown into his face' if that makes sense; at 35 he wasn't much cop - at 40 he is gorgeous. I suppose it was the stopwatch scene in Torchwood that made me fall for him, followed soon after by the Christmas concert on radio 2 and then seeing him in panto. I was totally smitten. And I tell you, I've seen a lot of guys on stage or on the pitch/course/whatever over the years - this chap is the sexiest I have ever seen live. Even more than Jonny.

*sobs* Cue cries of "it's not fair!" and "why am I so far away?"
Jonny - what can I say?
My Jonny love has been ruined by something that has nothing to do with the unmentionable events of yesterday. Will email the horrific reason. But the man still has lovely hair.
this chap is the sexiest I have ever seen live

I'm sorry if I ever sound like I'm boasting about what I get up to (and don't forget you can get close to people like the Thorpedo!) - I do so wish you lived close enough to join in our lunacy.
Jonny has the best hair in the world. And in re the traumnatisation, we need to act, I'm ready for a crusade.
You can has sexy Barrowboy if I can has sexy Scoot.

Date: 2007-10-21 03:35 pm (UTC)You never boast. I'm just questioning the relative merits of living in Sydney. *g* And the Thorpedo is great, if for one tiny problem. He went to the high school which is the traditional enemy of mine. Not that I can ever mention this, because the school's former headmisstress is a family friend and also a nun/lawyer and I figure I'm doubly damned if I insult her. *g*
I fear I shall never recover from the trauma. *sticks on some armour* Crusade, here I come!
You can has sexy Scoot if you sharez him with me.

Date: 2007-10-21 09:08 pm (UTC)Ah - you and Ian - sounds like Romeo and Juliet potential.
I will sahre Sexy Scoot only if we get to crusade together. I has no armous so will use my wok for a breastplate. Point me in the right direction...

Date: 2007-10-22 11:15 am (UTC)Preferably without the tragic ending. *g* Unfortunately, if we go on his previous track record - ie. my cousin - he likes blondes. And I'd make a terrible blonde. :D
I will sahre Sexy Scoot only if we get to crusade together
Maybe we should enlist Scoot to join our crusade? He can design our fort. *g*

Re: icon meme!
Date: 2007-10-29 06:33 pm (UTC)Well indeed. I *almost* shudder to think of what jack harkness would have made of the rugger and darling vincent (though you're right, vincent isn't his type, it's clement who would have to watch himself. But that would be mean b/c then vincent would have hurt feelings b/c his buddy would go off drinking with someone else.
Re: icon meme!
Date: 2007-10-29 07:01 pm (UTC)Hey - how can we go VC stalking? There's a challenge.
Re: icon meme!
Date: 2007-10-30 07:45 pm (UTC)#If it were only drinking that would be OK.#
Well and I just don't know what to think about clement after reading that bit in the telegraph ...
#Anyhoo little Vincent could go off with Ianto and talk scrummaging.#
Awwww. You know, you have these great little quips and ideas which makes me loooooooong for that story ... *contented sigh* It is cute to think of ianto talking with vincent. Especially when i think of little V's smiles and how he would speak english - thickly accented but sweet. Does ianto have a welsh accent? I hope they could understand each other lol.
#Hey - how can we go VC stalking? There's a challenge.#
OH indeed ... *must think on this a bit*
Cutie will be in paris this weekend at stade francaise. Makes me think of your story of the boys!
Re: icon meme!
Date: 2007-10-31 02:03 pm (UTC)Ianto does have a Welsh accent - quite a nice one. But I'm not falling for your tricks, missy.
Re: icon meme!
Date: 2007-10-31 08:01 pm (UTC)Yes, that must be it. *wants to believe sweetie wasn't crying and sad*
#Ianto does have a Welsh accent - quite a nice one. But I'm not falling for your tricks, missy.#
Yes, alright. too clever for me. *g* I'll try to restrain myself in future (emphasis on the word try ... i'm only human). I should try to hear ianto's voice some time
OHhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
silly, slow-minded!me!!
Ianto is WELSH right?! he must be a huuuuuuuuuuuuge rugger fan!! He really could pick up some tips for the scrum from darling Vincent, couldn't he? but perhaps he'd hate vincent if wales lost to france that year ... *ponders*

Been wondering exactly which French players it was in this icon so now I know *grins*
Sacre Couer does indeed look pretty
Ahhhh Jonny - such a nice bloke, if somewhat obsessed in his habits, bless him *pets Jonny*
Thank you for the Bride's explanation - not needed in terms of my enjoyment of the series, but interesting to see what helped influence you to write such a wonderful 'verse
I know what you mean about some men 'growing into their face' - there are many men who I think just get better looking the older they get (but then I rarely go for the young 'pretty boy'. One of the men I admired (as a person) was like that - John Kennedy Jr - he was a man who certainly got better and better looking as he got older and seemed a thoroughly nice person considering the goldfish bowl madness that must have been his life - but still very human with it (i.e. he wasn't perfect, just very normal)

I know we were lucky - it was a special holiday, to mark our silver wedding, no less.
###Sacre Couer does indeed look pretty###
It's delightful - if a bit of a hike.
###Ahhhh Jonny - such a nice bloke, if somewhat obsessed in his habits, bless him *pets Jonny*###
he reminds me of Hornblower, you know. *hugs him*

*bows* And it was interesting having to put down clearly how it had come about.

We could put together a whole list. Sean Connery is another prime example.
