Yesterday, when [livejournal.com profile] nodbear and I were doing a last minute plan for this Lent, I thought of the verse "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." I don't know about you but I feel laden with a media diet of sad news, bad news, fake news, anger and hatred. So we're concentrating on the positive this year, even though some of those positives may have a darker and adder angle within them. As is the case in this first story, about Keegan Hirst and the pain of coming out after living life in denial. I've read so many similar stories of deep despair turning to some sort of light when the truth is allowed to emerge.

The thing that strikes me about this particular coming out story is not the celebrity support he got after taking the plunge ( though its good that he got it) but his own feelings of finally being free and also his wish to help other kids because he now understands just how courageous his gay schoolmates had to be.
A good story - and an interesting guy. May he give some others inspiration as am sure he already has.

Yes, it's the 'truth will set you free' element that's so striking. Although one must never underestimate the collateral damage to loved ones. These things are always messy.

Yes - I have seen collateral damage of that sort at first hand once or twice and it needs care and attention for families particularly unsuspecting spouses caught up in events they did not have any suspicion of - so hopefully the truth can be freeing for everyone ultimately.

*nods* Yes. And if people like Keegan speaking out can prevent the mess happening in the first place, so much the better!
