Fair trade fortnight has just started. I can remember when fairly traded goods were a novelty - mainly bananas and the odd bit of coffee. Some of the early examples weren't great in terms of quality (some Fairtrade chocolate tasted like cardboard) but that's not an issue now. Buying fairly traded products is another small way in which we can all make a difference to the world. Excuse me while I go off and get some dried mango...

A great cheer for Fair trade - the first fairtrade coffee I had was at Oxford in '79 and a friend described it as 'Nicaraguan toenail clippings ' which was pretty damning but true .Now however there are single estate coffees and chocolate to match the best :)

Indeed. I wonder if they have to work hard to overcome those initial impressions?
