Lent 20

There have been some really heartening stories in our local news recently, including the cookery club for widowers where they can learn all the basic skills they never acquired because their mums or wives cooked for them. Doesn't seem possible in this day and age, does it? Although maybe parts of this country aren't as modern in their attitudes as we assume they are.

Bless!

Dad doesn't have much knowledge of cooking, unless a barbeque's involved somehow.

Do you think the BBQ appeals to the cave man side of the male? Like getting a mammoth over a big fire?

I think it's ingrained in them through stuff like scouting and action movies. The good boy scout/hero can light a fire and catch something edible to cook no matter how desolate the conditions.

I really should have asked Bestest Drinking Buddy when he was here last night (stopping off on his way back from the Grim North East). He has a suitably disreputable 4x4 with survival stuff hidden underneath all the portable techie equipment.

LOL Yes, his viewpoint would have been invaluable! The girls got me 'The Dangerous Book for Boys" in my Christmas stocking. They know me too well.

I've got a copy of that somewhere too. I'm looking forward to finishing the shelving in the dining room so I can actually have such things to hand.

I think we are on the edge of seeing the change in those needs that widow(ers) need- the men who can't cook and the women who never handled money and documentation but still there are those who need classes like these - I have heard of similar classes elsewhere and they do seem to be a good thing:)

Yes, one would hope that this generation might be more savvy.
