No 1 daughter studies (old pots or something) at Brum. We went out for dinner there last night; walking from Fiveways along Broad Street I'm thinking, "Hm, this is distinctly unsalubrious". We go down a slope towards the canal and Voila! I'm in a world of lovely new restaurants, restored canalside properties, narrowboats and general delightfulness. Such a contrast. Would thoroughly recommend the Jimmy Spice chain for quality of eat-all-you-can food. I may have had seven plates of foods. Possibly.

I love seeing these old canal and dockside areas being renovated and revitalised. I know there are arguments about former industrial areas becoming overly "gentrified" but if the alternative is that they lie derelict then I can't see that harm in it.

Sadly the Clyde is still lagging some way behind in terms of redevelopment, although we do still have a proper working, frigate building shipyard! The new transport museum opens on the Clyde in a few months so hopefully that'll start to revitalise at least one part of the river.
