Chimaeric cities

No 1 daughter studies (old pots or something) at Brum. We went out for dinner there last night; walking from Fiveways along Broad Street I'm thinking, "Hm, this is distinctly unsalubrious". We go down a slope towards the canal and Voila! I'm in a world of lovely new restaurants, restored canalside properties, narrowboats and general delightfulness. Such a contrast. Would thoroughly recommend the Jimmy Spice chain for quality of eat-all-you-can food. I may have had seven plates of foods. Possibly.

Some friends of ours have a narrow boat which they live on semi-permanently, and they love the canal area of Brum (Gas Street Basin, I think it's called). They are two crusty gentlemen of a certain age, who certainly aren't the sort to go in for gentrification or trendiness, but they're always saying what a marvellous atmosphere there is down there.

I'm angling for them to take me on a trip down that way... *g*

That was where we were! I bet we saw them milling around. Wouldn't it be great if we could co-ordinate a visit there?
