This one has been in the offing for ages, but I haven't had time before. (Why do I think I have time now? Oh yes, cos I'm a twit.)

Name a character (in the fandoms I write about) and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my own personal pseudo-canon

I'm going to be obvious and say Archie here.

AOS Archie was sent away to sea because he developed an unhealthy fascination with the actor who played Sebastian in 'Twelfth Night'. He still keeps a lock of the man's hair in his sea chest and Horatio doesn't know.

Bride's Archie once brought a goat into the porters' lodge and proceeded to milk it. The goat disgraced itself, Archie got gated and Mrs Summerbee made goat's cheese with the proceeds of the affair.

Modern day Archie (the two headed coin boy) writes detective novels about two Cambridge dons who solved murders in Edwardian times. I hace a writ against him for plagiarism.

Jack?

I like this meme, I'd do it if I had more than four characters to play with. In a purely innocent way, naturally *g*

Also, have you changed the font size on your journal? It's looking a lot smaller than usual. Although it's probably my computer going weird, or the fact that I spent most of today looking through microscopes...

Haven't done anything to journal - looks the same to me. It's the microscopes - they is evil. *g*

Jack's thingummy device on his wrist works intermittently, whatever the Doctor said. So he's been zipping about here there and everywhere:-

Jack was at the fall of Gondolin in the first age of Middle Earth. Some say he was Ecthelion of the fountain, others that he was Glorfindel and perished fighting a balrog. If the latter, he wore the same dodgy hair rinse that he sported when he accidentally ended up on Broadway in 'Springtime for Hitler'.

Despite the rumours to the contrary, Jack never had an affair with Cole Porter, although he was the inspiration for 'In the Still of the Night'. He did, however, have a steamy relationship with Ivor Novello, who wrote 'And her Mother Came too' to amuse him.

Jack was indeed once pregnant. He was seduced by Ten - in the guise of a swan - and, like Leda, produced a marvellous egg, out of which came two female children, who had identical brains. It is not known where they ended up, although late twentieth century Earth is belived to be a possibility.

No I have not been on codeine. Just two jelly babies.

Ariadne has a morbid fear of frogs and the like. She loves all creatures, from the smallest amoeba to the largest blue whale, but amphibia give her the willies.

Miss Peters has fancied the pants off Archie Kennedy ever since she first saw him as a fresher. She pretends to Lemuel - and to herself - that it is merely maternal, but her feelings are definitely romantic. She fancied James Harper as well, but Horatio leaves her totally cold.

Ariadne's ambition is to pull the communication cord on a train.

Hmmm...Horatio. And (if there needs to be narrowing-down), specifically the Horatio from Sand.

(no subject)

Date: 2007-09-25 08:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mylodon.livejournal.com
Sand!Horatio's first love (and the only one apart from Sand!Archie) died at the age of twenty two, not in the great war but in the influenza epidemic that followed it.

Horatio himself was very ill in the two years that followed this event. Some said he had a broken heart, but it is likely that he was suffering from some sort of post viral fatigue or ME, having himself also had the flu. He lost a lot of weight and most of his confidence, used up much of his capital and all his writing stalled.

Horatio's mother has a girl lined up for him at home whom she is desperate for him to marry and about whom she has been dropping suibtle hints ever since he was ill. This is a positive incentive for the man to stay out in Egypt, although mama has threatened to come out herself - girl in tow - and find out exactly what the status quo is.

How about William Bush? We haven't heard about him for a while. =)

From: [identity profile] mylodon.livejournal.com
William Bush's dislike of turnips dates to his childhood, when a minx called Emma took umbrage at his throwing a worm at her and threatened to stick a turnip up a delicate part of his anatomy.

LKU Mr Bush has a secret passion for Archie's mum - Elspeth, the Countess. He fancies the corsets off her.

Bride's Bush loves the elegance of turn-of-the-century Boston and can't get enough clam chowder or sour dough bread.

Cor - you don't want much, do you? Well, you'll get them all, but by installments.

Let's start with Mrs Ward:

She has a secret passion for Herbert Beerbohm Tree and has his likeness under her pillow.

Her Christian name is Margaretta, shortened to Mary. Her middle name is Pequod, after the ship in the novel that was published just before her birthday.

Her favourite things to bake are apple crumble and Yorkshire pudding. she thinks that Dr H is far to thin and wants to build him up.

Rex Prefontaine is regarded as THE premier eligible bachelor of Boston society. He believes that no-one knows why he has never succumbed to any of the young ladies who sigh over him; but his Mama knows it all...

Rex can speak five languages and is an expert on the literature of the late 18th and early 19th century. His favourite novelist is Jane Austen.

His great hope is that powered flight will soon become viable and he can cross the Atlantic by air. William is not so sure....

James Harper's family made their fortune in copper. He was born and brought up in New York and studied at Yale.

He really does enjoy getting himself punched, although not necessarily in his nose as he wishes to maintain the handsome profile. The sheer excitement of being thumped by - or in regard to - someone he fancies overcomes the pain.

James has the sort of understanding of Shakespeare's plays that only a truly versatile actor can have. Despite this, he still has problems pronouncing British place names.

Edrington's first name is Victoria, which is why he never reveals it. (His mother wanted a girl and would not be gainsaid in re names.)

His Lordship has three things he really loves; French white wine, newly baked bread and thrashing peasants with his horsewhip.

When 'Vicky' wanted Archie to blow up the bridge, he tells me that it was for strategic reasons involving the French republican forces. Horatio says it was so that he could not escape and Vicky would get to comfort Archie. Archie denies that there was ever a bridge.

You do indeed.

Horatio suffered from what we would now recognise as PTSD, after his father took his own life. Horatio threatened to commit suicide when at Oxford but Dr Keane talked him out of it. Archie does not know this, although he has guessed that something similar might have transpired.

H has an irrational fear of woodlice and when he's in the garden at the Old Cottage and comes across one, Mrs W or Archie has to scoot it away.

Horatio has a plan to save up and but Archie one of these new fangled motor vehicles, once he has fully researched it and established whether it is safe. And if Archie is sensible enough to be trusted with it.

We all know that Lord Peter was inspired to take up detectin' by Archie Kennedy - but I have just discovered that the officer whom Barbara left him for was in the same regiment as Hornblower during WWI. And Horry says he was a cad.

Lord Peter's faithful attendant Bunter is a second cousin to William Bush. (Can't you see the family resemblance?)

When Lord Peter was posing as Death Bredon at the advertising agency, he came up with the idea of credit cards, but no-one was brave enough to take up his proposal and run with it. Peter would have limited their use to the solvent upper classes, naturally.

Aha - saving myself work here; LKU Countess is called Elspeth so she don't count. *g*

Hyacinth didn't have a shock on her wedding night like poor Lavinia. Having a host of brothers who were fond of bathing and other outdoor frivolity, she was well aware of what a man would look like in all his glory.

She received eleven proposals of marriage before Richard's - which was the one she was waiting for all along. One of those rejected - though not with violence - was a member of the royal family.

Her favourite meal is smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and caviare and a glass of champagne to quaff.

Ah well - let's save disgracing ourselves for next week, eh?

Contemporary!Horatio works for financier who is based in Canary Wharf. He had a small pied a tere in Clerkenwell before he set up home with Archie.

He studied at Imperial college, where he was a noted runner; he wanted to take part in the London Marathon but did in his Achille's tendon in training.

Horatio had only one boyfriend before Archie; he was a rugby player who gave Horry the push by e-mail and it took the poor lad years to trust anyone again.

It has been enormous fun doing this - and led to a few ideas which might be usable in the future.

Sir Edward:

Was aware of the attraction between Horatio and Archie as soon as they joined the Indy - before they probably admitted it to each other. He was keen to nip it in the bud; it was following a little avuncular chat he'd had with Horatio that the Mariette incident happened.

Immensely strong physically and metally, Sir Edward can beat any other officer in the fleet at arm wrestling.

He wishes that his own son were more like Horatio; the former has been a disappointment to him.
